The League Two Transfer & Rumour Roundup

And it’s all gone quiet over there! - Quite literally at Wrexham, as target Nick Powell trains with Crewe Alexandra and there remains to be a single player through the doors at the Racecourse Ground.

In a week where owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney pumped some money into F1 team Alpine, are they out of the race for midfielder Powell?

Boss Phil Parkinson has sent a bold statement to their fellow league two competitors as he appears more than happy with the squad he has for the time being.

Speaking to ‘The Leader’ midweek as the boss welcomed players back for pre-season training, Parkinson said: “We know the players we'd like and we are going to try and get those players as we feel they can improve us. If not, we are more than happy with the squad we have got."

As Wrexham search for back-to-back promotions after success in the National League last year, their title-winning squad no doubt is strong enough to compete at the top end of League Two. And, with his words and actions Parkinson has shown great loyalty, belief and confidence in his players which may send a message to fellow competitors.

Powell meanwhile, a summer target, and one of the only ones it seemed, has recently been training with fellow League Two side Crewe Alexandra following his release from Stoke City.

The ex-Manchester United player, dubbed an ‘exceptional talent’ by Sir Alex Ferguson, is back where he was before his Red Devils days, as he joined United in 2012 from the Alex.

North Wales Live reported: “Wrexham are negotiating a deal with Nick Powell and talks are at an advanced stage - he is speaking to other clubs though so nothing has been finalised."

So we’ll see where Powell ends up and if he’s through the Wrexham doors any time soon, while it’s clear that Phil Parkinson is showing no stress over the capabilities of his side, and doesn’t feel the need to splash some more cash of his Hollywood owners.

Elsewhere, much to the Saddlers’ support’s delight, fan-favourite Danny Johnson will stay on at Walsall.

The striker, who scored 15 goals in 30 matches across all competitions for Walsall during a short loan spell at the Bescot for the first half of last season, has signed a two-year deal, and there won’t be many who aren’t delighted.

The opposition sides may be, but the Saddlers fans won’t. Johnson returned to Mansfield after his loan spell with Walsall ended in January and the 30-year-old will officially join Walsall on July 1st.

Meanwhile, rumour has it that Cheltenham Town striker Alfie May will leave, as a deal has been struck for him to join up with Kent-side Gillingham.

It’s a blow for Charlton Athletic who showed a big interest in the forward and clubs like Derby County were also reported to be keen to sign the 29-year-old. He cost Cheltenham £5,000 from Doncaster Rovers who will be entitled to 20% of any received fee.

And, Harrogate Town AFC have signed 23-year-old winger James Daly from National League side Woking while goalkeeper Murphy Mahoney has joined Swindon Town on a season-long loan from QPR.

We’ll see what else happens across the English Football League regarding transfers, and we shall keep you updated here on Crowdplod.

What do you think about your side’s transfer window so far? How big of a signing could Danny Johnson be for Walsall? And, do Wrexham need Nick Powell?
