After being informed of charges stemming from an investigation initiated in May, Sunderland AFC has suspended 23-year-old Jack Diamond, who has been on loan at League One Lincoln City.
Diamond, originally from Washington, Tyne and Wear, has been charged with one count of rape and one count of sexual assault in connection to an alleged incident where a woman was sexually assaulted in the Washington area residence in May of last year. Diamond's spokesperson has said that he [Jack] denies the allegations and intends to clear his name in court. Sunderland, Diamond's parent club, has terminated his loan agreement with Lincoln City and suspended the player until the legal process is completed. Lincoln City confirmed that Diamond's loan agreement has been terminated immediately. As the situation is under legal proceedings, the club will not make any further comments.
