West Ham were going into the game unbeaten at Villa Park since 2015 and were looking to keep that winning streak going on the weekend. An entertaining first half, for the home side, saw Unai Emery’s side dominate West Ham as Douglas Luiz opened the scoring in the most predictable fashion.
An amazing display from Aston Villa saw goals from Ollie Watkins, Leon Bailey and a brace from Douglas Luiz all on the scoresheet in a 4-1 massacre.
West Ham did grab a consolation goal through none other than Jarrod Bowen but it wasn’t enough to spark a comeback as Villa looked settled and composed throughout the second half.
The Hammers could’ve been there until Christmas and still wouldn’t have scored. David Moyes’ set up was totally wrong, and a lot of fans took their frustrations over on Twitter. Majority of the same type of Tweets, which were correct. Granted that individual errors and player performance cost us the game, it still was not a good day in the office for West Ham.
Jarrod Bowen has scored in every West Ham away game this season and has been the Hammers’ best player this season by a mile. The winger recently signed a contract extension with the club which is a positive bit of news in a dull few weeks.
West Ham played Olympiakos last night in Greece, with the English side losing 2-1 in the Europa League. Another dismal display from Moyes’ side makes worrying signs for the game this Sunday vs Everton. A must win game to get back on track in the Premier League and keep the momentum that they had at the start of the season.
