FPL GW9 Preview: Can Villa Take Advantage of their Fixtures?

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa side currently sit 5th in the league table, and with The Villans now just 4 points from 1st, it really does beg the question of which of their players are best to invest in. I’ve already mentioned the likes of Cash (£5.0m) and Watkins (£8.1m), who are your best bets at scoring points for the foreseeable future, however their backline contains a huge bargain.

Sitting at a mere (£4.5m), Europa League winner Pau Torreshas played consistently, even grabbing an equaliser in the West Midlands Derby against Wolves. And with 3 of Villa’s next 4 fixtures coming to Luton, Nottingham Forest and Fulham, he should be a steal at that price, and frees up funds as an alternative instead of fellow teammate Matty Cash.

Watchlist: Ones to Watch

Although I advised previously to spend low on keepers for now, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for Arsenal’s new first choice shotstopper, David Raya (£4.8m). Despite The Gunners facing dicey fixtures in the near future, the Spanish international has shown his potential to pick up save and bonus points, even in the absence of a clean sheet, making his somewhat premium price much more tempting.

Fresh off the back of a clean sheet for England, Crystal Palace’s number one Sam Johnstone (£4.5m) has now kept 3 clean sheets on the bounce domestically, acquiring a whopping 8 save and bonus points in the process. Definitely look to target him from Gameweek 11, in which he faces Burnley, Everton and Luton moving onwards.

After making an emphatic return for The Gunners, scoring a late winner against Manchester City, Gabriel Martinelli (£7.7m) looks set to come back far stronger from his hamstring issue. His harsh price reductions certainly make his price tag far more attractive, as he aims to better his team leading tally of 15 goals last time around.

Moving forward to frontline options, Darwin Núñez (£7.4m) could easily make a mark on Liverpool’s upcoming ties to Everton, Nottingham Forest and Luton. The Uruguayan centre-forward contributed an assist in The Red’s most recent outing, and should be full of direct involvements if he can play regularly over the next few games.
