Ben Wilson nets 90+5 equaliser for Coventry in push for playoffs

Updated: Apr 20, 2023

Ben Wilson, Coventry 'keeper, scores a goal in stoppage time that was surrounded by controversy. The goal secured a 1-1 draw at Ewood Park and provided a huge boost to Coventry's playoff chances with just three Championship fixtures remaining for the Sky Blues in the current 2022/23 season.

It appeared that Rovers were on track at Ewood to advance their own ambitions of remaining in the top six after Sam Gallagher scored in the first half. However, in the fifth minute of added time, Ben Wilson was granted to come out of his net to the other end of the pitch for a last gasp corner and it resulted in being just that. Wilson was able to bag the equaliser in front of the 2,800 travelling fans in the away-end. Despite loud protests from Rovers for an alleged handball, the appeals were ignored by the officials before the final whistle went.

Following the draw, Blackburn sit on the edge of the Championship standings in sixth place, with the Sky Blues sitting just one point behind them occupying eighth. Coventry host a struggling Reading side on Saturday afternoon at the Coventry Building Society Arena and will be looking to capitalise on their recent poor form whilst Blackburn travel down the road to local rivals Preston North End who sit 11th in the table in much better form. If Blackburn can't get a result at North End on Saturday, they will have to hope for results to go their way in their other three remaining fixtures - Rovers have 4 games remaining in this current Championship campaign.
