Four In a Row?

Manchester City won a third Premier League trophy in a row last year equalling a record held only by their local rivals Manchester United from the seasons of 2006/07 to 2008/09.

City now have a chance to go one further this campaign, but the biggest question is can they win the league this year and become the first team to win 4 consecutive Premier League titles?

The Cityzens won their third consecutive title trophy after edging Arsenal to win by 5 points, as the Gunners battled head-to-head with the champions for the latter stages of the season, before they met at the Etihad in a 4-1 win which would see Manchester City go clear at the top for another successful campaign.

City tend to be quite ruthless and statistically always play their best football towards the end of the season, getting results in almost every game they play.

The Blues are currently unstoppable at the Etihad. They have not lost a home league game in 2023. Their form at home doesn’t end there, as they have not lost a Champion’s League game at the Etihad for over 5 years...

With this being said - can a team like Arsenal have any chance of beating a team so relentless in-home fixtures?

The Red Devils were so close to achieving 4 in a row but fell short by just a single point to Chelsea in the 2009/10 season. Sir Alex’s men had dominated the Premier League for the 3 straight years they had won it, but the rest of the league had caught up, with Chelsea winning it and Arsenal only 10 points behind.

Manchester United then went on to win the league title the following year.

So, what’s the difference between that Manchester United team and this Manchester City team? Firstly, City have just come back from a historic treble winning season. Finally securing their first Champions League trophy that they have chased for some time now.

Secondly, they have shown such domination under Pep Guardiola in recent times that no team has been able to challenge City since the 2021-22 campaign, where even Liverpool’s 92-point tally was not enough to catch the Citizens.

Teams like Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham have shown signs of weakness and have lost their threat to the title in recent times, leaving Arsenal as favourites to catch City. But personally, I believe City will in fact break the record, even despite recent injury to star player Kevin De Bruyne.

Their team has the quality and squad provides the cover necessary to challenge in all competitions. With teams like Liverpool rebuilding under Klopp, Chelsea adapting to new manager Pochettino’s methods, Tottenham Hotspur learning to grow without Harry Kane and Newcastle competing in the Champions League, I believe Manchester City will comfortably win the Title for the fourth consecutive year!

Arsenal have arguably the best chance of beating City; Arteta has been able to really develop Arsenal into a team that has potential to compete for the title, but a team of Manchester City’s expertise, calibre and expenditure should really be more than able to see off any team in their way...

The Premier League is full of surprises and has proved it isn’t over until it’s over, so do you think Arsenal can win the league this year? Can another team maybe surprise us? Or, will Manchester City capture a fourth consecutive Premier League title...
